A legacy of Innovation since 1850

Founded during the Industrial Revolution – over 170 years ago, Anderton Board and Packaging has weathered countless economic shifts, technological advancements and societal changes.

Our values have stood the test of time, demonstrating our ability to be flexible as a reliable partner to our customers and suppliers.

1850

During the later stages of the industrial revolution in Manchester, W.H. Anderton & Sons. is incorporated in 1850.

1929

Much of the early history of the company is lost, but the company and its directors are featured in the Box making Journal and Packaging Review in 1929.

1955

W.H. Anderton & Sons appear in a Programme for a Rugby match between local Rugby club Belle View Rangers, and Oldham.

The Company at this time is located on Polygon Street in Ardwick, Manchester.

1961

Current owner Alec Anderton passes away suddenly, leaving his son David to take the reigns.

1961-1981

Under David’s leadership, the company grew by selling folded wrappers to national newspapers.

In the late 60’s, W.H. Anderton & Sons move from its long-term home in Ardwick to a nearby area of Longsight, staying in Manchester.

1981

W.H. Anderton & Sons moves across town to Warwick Road, Old Trafford, Manchester – A couple of hundred yards away from Manchester United’s iconic football stadium.

1982

David’s son, Chris, takes charge of the company. The company thrived throughout this period, producing die-cut pieces of board for the Furniture industry – an industry it still serves today.

1998

W.H. Anderton & Sons relocate to their current location on Fifth Avenue – Trafford Park, Manchester.

2004

After remaining in the Anderton family for generations, the business is sold to the Ward family.

2005

 Acquired their biggest supplier, Doric Board and Packaging – based in Saffron Walden.

Doric Board were relocated up to Manchester and the two companies merged to create Doric Anderton Ltd.

2007

Acquired Ron Watts Ltd in Grimsby – a specialist supplier of solid board packaging to the fish sector.

2009

Acquired complementary business in Burnley to broaden product range into the food packaging sector, incorporating products such as cake boards.

2012

Doric Anderton Ltd became part of the Doric Group. The group developed through a combination of organic growth and acquisition.

2019

Doric Anderton was divested from the Group and taken back into Ward Family ownership. Renamed Anderton Board & Packaging Ltd.

Present Day

After a rich history of over 170 years, Anderton Board and Packaging still work closely with both their customers and suppliers to develop innovative, sustainable solutions that meet modern-day business challenges.
